Master Dmitri raised the Lexus GS 430 onto the lift and performed a thorough visual inspection. Despite the absence of obvious holes in the exhaust pipe, the unusually loud noise was noticeable. Upon closer examination, the junction of two pipes was identified, which had been subsequently reinforced with metal.

Sawing through this metal reinforcement revealed the real problem:

• The insulation was made of glass wool – it was very damp.
• The join point corroded due to dampness.
• The corrosion damage led to holes in the exhaust pipe – source of the loud noise

Following the diagnosis, the repair was carried out in the following steps:

• Removal of the damaged exhaust pipe from the vehicle
• Cleaning and removal of corrosion residues from affected areas
• Welding on new metal – professional repair of holes and joints
• Reinstallation of the repaired exhaust pipe
• Test drive for inspection – no loud noise detected anymore
