Volkswagen Transporter T5, 1.9 TDI, replacement of the starter motor

In our Car workshop Savtrans Berlin is a tow truck of the type Volkswagen T5 van with a 1.9 TDI diesel engine. During an operation, the tow truck no longer started. Our mechanics travelled to the vehicle's location to rectify the fault. During the emergency call-out, the mechanics started the tow truck and drove it straight to the workshop to carry out a thorough and detailed diagnosis.

When we brought it to the workshop, we immediately carried out an initial inspection. We found the following:

• The starter motor did not respond to the start command and the dashboard did not display any indicators.
  We connected the diagnostic equipment and checked all the circuits. It turned out that the problem was related to a burnt-out starter motor.

We carefully removed the starter motor and found that the wiring and contacts were completely burnt out. We replaced the starter motor with a new one, checked all the electrical connections, took a test drive and the car started up again without any problems.
