The Mercedes Sprinter arrived slowly, loudly and smoking heavily. We observed this with astonishment and wondered what could have happened to it. According to the customer, the vehicle had lost traction, fuel consumption had increased, there was a lot of exhaust fumes and the vehicle was idling unevenly.
Diagnosis
After entering the Car repair shop we started the computer diagnosis and found the following faults:
- Malfunction of the injection nozzles
- Unstable pressure in the fuel distributor
- Misfiring
- Increased fuel correction
After our mechanic Stas had logged all the faults, it was decided to remove the valve cover.
Start of the work
The mechanic Nikolai started to gradually loosen all the bolts of the valve cover and after opening it, all the mechanics and the customer were shocked by what they saw. There was a thick layer of deposits in the area of the injectors, which impaired the proper functioning of the injectors and the engine as a whole.
After cleaning, it became clear why so much debris had built up under the lid: The seals in three injection nozzles were burnt out.
Possible causes
- Overheating of the motor
- Oil change not in time
- Inferior fuel
- Poor ventilation of the crankcase exhaust gases
Repair procedure
Master Nikolai thoroughly cleaned all contacts, hoses, channels and the upper block. The old injection nozzles were removed and replaced with new ones. A thorough electronic diagnosis was then carried out again to detect any faults. The engine now runs smoothly, the strong exhaust fumes have disappeared, fuel consumption has stabilised and there are no more faults.
